Centrum? AMC TV show 'Kevin Can F**K Himself' goes old school with Worcester references

WORCESTER — It's as Worcester as it gets.

The third episode of “Kevin Can F**K Himself” — the new AMC network series that is set in Worcester but not filmed here — starts off with a Worcester Centrum reference.

Kevin (Eric Petersen) comes home with a surprise hidden in his backpack.

“So there I was, walking down the street. No one else was around when, Boom! This just appeared in front of me,” Kevin says.

Kevin unwraps a large banner and Neil (Alex Bonifer), who’s wearing a gray “Worcester” hoodie, announces, “Kevin! (pause) Hart live at the Worcester Centrum.”

“You took that?” Allison (Annie Murphy) snaps.

“The wind took it off the side of the Worcester Centrum,” Kevin answers.

“It's got your name on it, so, legally, it belongs to you,” Neil interjects.

Then Kevin reveals his plans to hang the banner on the side of his house.

Longtime Worcester residents will appreciate the Centrum reference. No big deal about the discrepancy.

While some locals still call the city’s premier concert venue that Frank Sinatra opened the Worcester Centrum, it has been named the DCU Center since 2005.

However, Kevin Hart did perform on April 28, 2015, at the DCU Center, not the Worcester Centrum.

Other Worcester references in Episode 3 of “Kevin Can F**K Himself” include a prescription for OxyContin 40 mg from Ian Holden, M.D., 7958 Main St., Worcester 01613 (no such practice or address); Patty (Mary Hollis Inboden) wearing a sweatshirt with the words “Worcester Hairstyling Institute” (no place by that name); a bus stop with a sign that reads “WRTA Union Station”; a reference to Clark Street Elementary School; and a drug bust by uniformed officers of the Worcester Police Department.

The episode runs Sunday on AMC.
